The piggy bank’s empty, but I am ecstatic! I received my new camera tree days ago and believe me it’s not just any camera; it’s DP2 Merril, which I’ve craved for for so long When I switched from Canon and Nikon to SD1, I was actually flirting with the idea of buying a compact camera; but back then it was just a dream. I couldn’t afford a DP and what other compact options did I have, having been already spoiled by Foveon sharpness? None.
It simply had to be a DP and since I used to have a 1s, I’ve decided in favor of the model with a standard focal length. In my humble opinion DP2 has got three major benefits: First of all, lenses with 40-50mm focal length (FF equivalent) are from my experience universally applicable, compared to wide angles, which have a more specific role. Secondly, with the DP2 and the same maximum aperture (f2,8) it is easier to isolate the subject, than with a wide angle . Thirdly, the DP2 lens is supposed to be even sharper than the already excellent 19mm of the DP1 Merrill.
