When I reported about the 24-105mm f/4 two weeks ago, I nourished hope that Sigma would present this and many more lenses at the PhotoPlus Expo. But things turned out differently. Sigma officially presented the lens even before the exhibition, at a RRP of €999 and available at the beginning of November. Instead of further lenses, I now have three smaller Sigma updates and news for you.
Firstly, Sigma isn’t planning on offering lenses for the A7 and A7r, despite the huge hype around Sony’s new mirrorless Alphas.
Secondly, Sigma-Rumors discovered the patent for a 300mm f/2.8 prime. This will most probably refer to the Art, which has been mentioned two months ago on several rumor pages together with the 400mm f/2.8, 500mm f/2.8 and 600mm f/2.8 tele lenses. It is rumored that it will be presented at the end of 2014 / beginning of 2015.
Thirdly, you can now download new firmware for the SD1 / SD1 Merrill as well as a new Sigma Photo Pro, Version 5.5.3. With these two updates, the image quality (color rendering at the edges) of the 18-35mm f/1.8 on the SD1 / SD1M is improved.
That’s it for the time being. 🙂
