I love macro photography. I love watching macro photos as well as shooting them. What I don’t like is carrying heavy equipment all day. For this reason, I think the combination referred to in the title is hard to beat. A tripod, heavy macro lens and DSLR may be able to offer more, but how long does it take before you lose passion for photography since such heavy equipment turns it into pure work? This hasn’t happened to me once with the DP3M and the Marumi. 😉
Maybe that’s the reason why I can’t seem to find the current innovations in the full frame sector (cameras are getting cheaper and cheaper) anywhere near as thrilling as the progress in compact and partly small mirrorless cameras. Soon, all cameras will provide an image quality good enough for the most ambitious photographer. It will only matter which equipment you can take with you more often and carry it longer, in order to take more photos and enjoy photography even more.
