Given the rumors about Adobe’s new Creative Cloud, which is to be presented officially on June 18, I gave the whole Cloud-thing another thought. After rethinking the concept I again came to the conclusion that I’m simply too “old school” to actually find some positive aspects about it. I neither see any advantage in saving my data and photos on other people’s storages, especially when they can gain instant access to the files without my consent, nor do I like the thought that a service for which I’ve paid money may not be available when servers are down or being hacked. Additionally, if the server is being hacked, the intruder may gain access to my (bank) data which most likely would not end in my favor.
Although we are only talking about photo processing software in this case, I automatically imagine a scenario in which I’m sitting in my car, all stressed out already with my mind focused on upcoming meetings at work. I turn the key in the ignition to start my car, but all I get as a response is a message on the dashboard: “Not able to connect to server, login failed. Power unit not available. Please excuse the inconvenience.” Honestly, such a scenario irritates me quite a bit which is why I don’t want to support this kind of development. What are your thoughts about the whole Cloud-thing?
