Sigma News & Rumors: SPP 6.0.6 and DP2Q Firmware 1.02 are now available!

deutsch_s1

Today Sigma has released the SPP Version 6.0.6 and a new Firmware Version 1.02 for the DP2 Quattro. The changelogs look promising. After the update, the camera is supposed to focus more reliably on dark, low-contrast motifs and it is supposed to get a “what you see is what you get” live view mode. SPP 6.0.6 is supposed to no longer have the „Beer Garden“ bug – at least that’s how I’m interpreting the text – resolution and saturation of the red channel are supposedly improved and a bug regarding multiple (external) hard drives has supposedly been fixed.

Here are the changelogs:

Firmware Ver.1.02

・It has added the function to select whether the preview image on the LCD Display reflects the exposure result.

・It has improved the AF accuracy for the objects with low brightness and contrast.

・It has added the parameter to compensate for the saturation of red colors and improved the detail resolution of the specific part.

* It is effective for both RAW and JPEG files, yet there is no change in the parameters in color modes other than “Neutral”.

Note: If the firmware has been updated to Ver.1.01 or later, it is not possible to develop RAW files in SIGMA Photo Pro Ver.6.0.5 or before. Please be sure to update it to the latest version.

SPP 6.0.6

Windows

・It has corrected the resolution of the images of specific objects taken under certain conditions.

・It has added the parameter to compensate for the saturation of red colors and improved the detail resolution of the specific part.

* This is only when “Neutral” color mode of SIGMA dp Quattro is selected, and there is no change for the parameter in other color modes.

・It has improved the performance to offer more stable operation. This is effective in cases such as when a network drive’s shortcut is in use and the computer environment has multiple connections more than E drive.

・It has corrected the phenomenon that multiple pictures that are developed and saved as JPEG and TIFF in the software may happen to merge into one image data in the folder.

MacOS

・It has corrected the resolution of the images of specific objects taken under certain conditions.

・It has added the parameter to compensate for the saturation of red colors and improved the detail resolution of the specific part.

* This is only when “Neutral” color mode of SIGMA dp Quattro is selected, and there is no change for the parameter in other color modes.

・It has corrected the phenomenon that multiple pictures that are developed and saved as JPEG and TIFF in the software may happen to merge into one image data in the folder.

・It has corrected the phenomenon that the characters in the software are not displayed properly in Spanish.

Since I’m still downloading with 10kb/s, I haven’t installed SPP 6.0.6 yet. The 1.02 FW for the DP2Q is only 28.3MB in size, so that I was able to download it and update the camera rather quickly. The AF appears to be somewhat more reliable in low light and when focusing on dark, low-contrast subjects. However, the difference is not huge by any means. Nevertheless, DP2Q’s AF is much more reliable than the DP2M’s, not least thanks to the AF assist lamp.

In the short amount of time I couldn’t find the „what you see is what you get“ mode. I found a setting in the menu, which allows you to enable WYSIWYG in M mode, but I‘m not sure whether or not that setting was there all along.

      Hi Johnny,

No, this kind of camera behavior is not normal. Regarding SPP, the Mac version supposedly has many more bugs than the Windows version. Since I use the latter and haven’t encountered any bugs, I can’t comment on the Mac version.

Thank you very much Johnny! 🙂

  2. […] indeed rather positive. The boost in speed feels much bigger than when the firmware was updated to firmware version 1.02. The DP2 Quattro focuses accurately and sufficiently fast even at f/2.8, ISO3200 and an exposure […]
