Anyone enthusiastic about Urban Exploration – or at least photos that typically originate thereby – might have already viewed all the photos from Chernobyl and Pripyat that can be found on the internet. After all, the 30 km long exclusion zone around the two cities is like a Mecca for lost places explorers and fans.
Even though the radioactively polluted area has become a rather popular travel destination visited by more than 60,000 adventurers annually (every square meter of the zone probably has already been photographed twice or three times already), Danny Cooke’s aerial shots offer a unique perspective of the two ghost cities. His original reason for visiting the exclusion zone was to take pictures for the CBS News show 60 Minutes. The „Postcards from Pripyat, Chenobyl“ video embedded below came into being in passing, if you will, which makes it even more fascinating.
If you want to know more about the topic, I would suggest reading the 60 minutes article. Unfortunately, I couldn’t yet manage to read it, but will do so first thing tomorrow. 🙂
