Rust

In my opinion rust can transform many trivial objects into interesting photo motifs. I find cars, for example, rather boring, but in my view rust can make them photogenic and worth photographing. Many old and rusty vehicles are littered with interesting detail, which begs to be photographed from up close.

Sometimes rust can transform a photographic subject entirely and give it a touch of impressionism. This tree for example, which is reflected in the puddle, looks at first glance like it is blossoming.

The core of the problem lies in finding these kinds of motifs. Usually they are not easily noticeable, which is why one has to get into the habit of keeping an eye out for them during a photo walk. This is however easier said than done. Before recently searching through my photo archive, I was under the impression that I have made dozens of such images. But I haven’t.

Seemingly due to my inattentiveness I’m skipping out on a great many photo ops and far too often returning home with a SD card full of images of my usual motifs. 🙂
