Only now that I’m taking photos with a Sigma 24/1.4 Art I’m beginning to understand why 35mm or 35mm equivalent lenses and standard primes are so often compared in forums. One would assume that the difference in focal length of a few millimeters hardly matters. However, taking pictures with both focal lengths feels quite different, even if one can shoot the same photos with both.
The 35mm focal length requires clearly more proximity to the subject, which can turn out to be strange and sometimes even extremely annoying. Photographers who prefer this focal length certainly feel the same way about standard primes, only that they have to take a few steps back again and again, when they take photos.
