As most photographers I’m also not a big fan of rainy weather. I find the cold and the gray cloudy sky discouraging and the dim light not really very helpful for good pictures. However, doing photo shoots with such bad weather sometimes pays off. Certain subjects, such as spider webs which can be easily overlooked on sunny days, become real eye-catchers in the rain. The pale colors aren’t an issue as long as you’re ready to convert the images to black and white.
I’m not sure if it’s my imagination but to me the photos taken on such days seem predestined for a conversion to black and white. The editing headroom is immense and I really enjoy experimenting during the post processing phase and getting closer and closer to the result I want to achieve. Such moments don’t exist in the post processing of color photographs, where you pull the contrast slider all the way and instead of a horrible picture a fairly harmonious result shows up on the screen. 🙂
