When an algorithm rates photos – Flickr photos of the year 2016

Who of us doesn’t know Flickr? – With about 5000 uploads a minute and almost 77 million users Flickr belongs to the 50 most frequented internet websites.

Of course this incredible amount of image material uploaded every day makes it hard to find the best photos. Still the image hosting website has selected the “Top Flickr Photos” for 2016 from billions of uploads. According to the website the selection procedure was completed with the help of an algorithm. This algorithm is based, among other things, on the amount of views, selections and comments for each picture.

The selection of all winning photos consisting of 25 pictures mainly includes nature shots but also a photo of the Dalai Lama at a reception in the White House. Beyond this the resulting image selection was also curated by experts in order to avoid making the winners merely winners of a popularity contest.

Below you can see the 25 winning photos – the other pictures are published on the following link: http://blog.flickr.net/2016/12/06/top-flickr-photos-from-2016/
