Once upon a time … Fairytale images by Katarzyna and Marcin Owczarek

Fairytales have always counted among my favorite stories. No matter how grown up I became, fantasy and fairytale stuff has always kept fascinating me. The lack of all logic, endless possibilities and unlimited creativity and inspiration are probably the aspects that fascinate me so much about fairytales. Speaking animals, enchanted princes, surprising turning points we just can’t explain, and all the magical creatures in the world of fairytales – my list of the things I love so much about the stories could be endless.

Of course, I’ve always been thrilled about the illustrations of the stories as well. No matter if it was a Disney production or a half-torn book of fairytales passed on over generations, the illustrations would breathe a bit more life into the stories.

A couple of days ago I suddenly came across the photos by Katarzyna and Marcin Owczarek in my Facebook feed. I certainly became an enthusiastic fan of the two photographers right away. Their photo project “My heart is an animal” makes us immerse in a wonderland like Alice.

In their project the artists strongly play with surreal elements, trying to emphasize the connection and similarities between humans and animals. In their opinion mankind and animals have many things in common. For example, they share the fate of mortality and have a similar need for love and care. Even the respect we as human-beings must show to animals for this reason is an aspect that both photographers want to highlight with their photos.

On their website the couple mentions that in their work they have strongly been influenced by philosophy, anthropology, sociology and mythology.

What’s your opinion on the project “My Heart is an Animal“? You can find out more on the website of both photographers.

You’ll find more of their magical photos on their website! 🙂 Enjoy!
