On the 26th of October Sigma has made an announcement that it’s developing a 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary, a new lens for micro four thirds and Sony E mounts. At that time RRP and release date were not yet disclosed. Due to its large aperture and the fact, that neither of the two systems have a similar lens in their respective portfolios, many photographer in large forums were expecting it to be very expensive. As dpreview.com, a well-known website, has posted, this will definitely not be the case. With a price of $449 in the US, the 16mm f/1.4 C will only be slightly more expensive than the 30mm f/1.4 DC DN C, which itself is highly regarded for offering a very good bang for the buck. According to some German websites the RRP over here is supposed to be €449. Whether this is based on official info or whether it’s only a mere 1:1 conversion on the part of the journalists is unknown at this time.
The info regarding the release date comes from photorumors.com. According to that the lens is supposed to start shipping on the 22nd of November in the states. It remains to be seen when it will be released in these parts.
