Sigma sd Quattro Review

SD Quattro is Sigma’s first interchangeable-lens mirrorless camera. In a sense it is a balancing act between the wish of many Sigma DP camera users for a DP camera with interchangeable lenses and reality, in which Sigma SD users, who naturally want to be able to use their existing SA mount lenses, mustn’t be forgotten ...

First images taken with my Sigma SD Quattro

Yes, you read that right, my Sigma SD Quattro has arrived and I’ve already had a chance to take some photos with Sigma’s very first “EVIL”. It’s too early to go into everything that was changed or improved in comparison with the SD1 Merrill. We are talking about a change of concept, from a DSLR ...

Review: Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG HSM Contemporary lens

The Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG HSM is my second Contemporary lens. Except for belonging to the same lens series as the 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM which I also have, they hardly have anything in common. It is large and heavy like every other full frame compatible telephoto lens with an extremely long focal ...

900mm at 1/50th of a second

As I jumped out of my bed this morning, I felt much better than the past days. Even though the weather seemed unsettled I decided to go on a photo tour. Another day on the couch, staring alternatively at the laptop and the TV, would have driven me mad. Obviously I am that kind of ...

More bird photos and a couple of macro shots (150-600mm C)

With over 20 degrees on Monday, to me, it didn’t feel like winter at all. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to take some great bird shots, so I took my SD1 Merrill and the 150-600mm C on a photo session. After hours of making use of the heavy equipment, my hair and my undershirt ...

Sigma News & Rumors: sd Quattro & sd Quattro H, 30mm F1.4 DC DN C & 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM A and MC-11 Adapter were announced!

With its announcement of two system cameras, the sd Quattro and the sd Quattro H, Sigma is putting an end to the rumors and speculations about the SD1 Merrill’s successor model.

Workflow: Less noise through sharpening with the adjustment brush tool

In the past I almost always sharpened the entire image. Sometimes right in Sigma Photo Pro (SPP), sometimes also in Lightroom after I’d developed the X3Fs and exported them as 16 bit TIFFs. However, since I started taking pictures of birds with the 150-600mm Contemporary lens, I’ve been sharpening increasingly with the adjustment brush tool ...

The Sigma 150-600 C is amazingly sharp

I don’t think I’m exaggerating because as you can see in the following image and in the 100% crop below, the lens turns out amazingly sharp for a super-tele-zoom. But only if you do everything the right way.

Another photo walk with the 150-600mm C

Today I went for another photo walk with the Sigma 150-600mm Contemporary and the SD1 Merrill camera. In comparison to last time, the weather was sunny and nice this time, so I didn’t have to increase the sensitivity range to ISO400 in order to achieve a sufficiently short shutter speed. Despite the long focal length ...

Fitness studio? No need, the Sigma 150-600mm C is here ;)

For a few days now I’ve been the owner of a Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary Tele Zoom. The timing for this purchase isn’t quite ideal, as taking photos with such lenses requires a lot of light. Actually I didn’t want to buy it before spring, but then I had a G.A.S. attack. A bad one ...
